John Whelan

John heads up the Commercial & Technology Group at ALG.
His practice spans commercial and contentious IP/IT and he has managed both domestic and pan-European IP litigation for leading international clients. He has co-ordinated the IP/IT aspects of some of the largest global corporate mergers, major IP projects and IT outsourcing transactions. Before returning to Ireland in 2003 he worked for an international law firm in London and Hong Kong.

John is a partner in ALG’s Commercial & Technology Group. His practice covers both contentious and non-contentious aspects of intellectual property, information technology, data protection and pharmaceutical regulation.
John has extensive experience in advising domestic and international clients on the creation, commercialisation and enforcement of intellectual property rights both in Ireland and the European Union. John sits on the committee of the Irish Copyright Association and the Irish branch of AIPPI and is a part-time lecturer in intellectual property law on University College Dublin’s LLM programme.

Andrew is a partner in ALG’s Commercial & Technology Group. His practice covers the contentious and non‑contentious aspects of intellectual property and data, as well as commercial agreements and technology law. He regularly advises on IP and data-driven transactions, as well as all legal issues relating to data regulation, including in the context of data privacy crises and investigations, deals and new data uses. Before joining A&L Goodbody, Andrew worked for a global law firm based in London.
Chris Bollard

Chris is a partner in A&L Goodbody’s market-leading Commercial & Technology Group. He is an expert in privacy, data protection, information technology and e-commerce law. His clients include some of the largest technology companies in the world.
Chris advises on all aspects of compliance with data protection law; including the ePrivacy regime, data breach response, international transfers and technical product counselling. He frequently counsels clients on the regulatory implications of new and emerging technologies and products. He also has extensive experience advising on the evolving regulatory obligations for online businesses. This includes advising on intermediary liability (and the eCommerce regime generally), online consumer protection law, geo-blocking rules and content moderation rules.
Chris also advises on the protection and commercialisation of intellectual property including software licences, software development agreements, intellectual property assignments and intellectual property transfers.
Paula Reid

Paula is a partner and heads up ALG’s knowledge function. She has written and spoken on the topic of knowledge management in law firms. She is the co-author with Michael Ashe QC of ” Money Laundering: Risks, Liabilities and Compliance” (FirstLaw 2007). She has advised extensively on the topic of money laundering compliance and related issues. In addition, she has spoken on the topics of company law and corporate governance. Paula is a barrister by background and has a postgraduate degree (LLM) in commercial law.
Sam Morrow

Sam is a solicitor in the Commercial and Technology Group at ALG. Sam practices in contentious and non-contentious aspects of Irish and European technology and intellectual property law. Since joining the team, he has assisted in advising domestic and international clients on a range of privacy, data protection and law enforcement matters.
Sam holds an honours degree in Law and French from Trinity College, Dublin, where as part of his degree, he spent a year studying French law at the University of Bordeaux. Sam also holds a certificate in technology law from the Law Society of Ireland.
Emma is a solicitor in ALG’s Commercial & Technology Group where she practices in both contentious and non-contentious matters. Emma holds an honours degree in Business and Law (BBL) from University College Dublin and, as part of her degree, spent a semester in University of Queensland in Australia. She also holds a certificate in Technology Law.
Since joining the team Emma has assisted on advising domestic and international clients in relation to data protection, privacy, intellectual property and commercial contracts.
Sarah Douglas

Sarah is a solicitor and registered trade mark agent in ALG’s Commercial & Technology Group. Sarah holds an honours degree in Pharmaceutical Chemistry with Chemistry from Maynooth, a masters in Legal Science from Maynooth and a Postgraduate Certificate in IP from Bournemouth University. She also holds a certificate in Technology Law from the Law Society of Ireland and a Certificate in the Specialised Course on the Madrid System for the International Registration of Marks from WIPO.
Sarah’s previous experience includes working as a Patent Analyst for a US patent monetisation firm, and as a Patent Scientist for a leading global provider of IP portfolio management services.
Sarah practices in both contentious and non-contentious aspects of IP and technology law. Since joining the team, she has assisted in advising domestic and international clients on IP disputes. She is currently involved in a number of IP cases before the High Court and Commercial Court.
